2023 MATHTEX 2023 - A Three-day Intensive Training on Calculus (Fundraiser)
Rationale: The implementation of the K-12 program has brought major changes in the mathematics curricula of junior and senior high schools. On the other hand, the pandemic worsened the learning problems of students. Faithful to the commitment to developing mathematics and mathematics education in the community as a national center of excellence, the Mathematics Division of the Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics has risen to the challenge of providing training programs for (1) high school mathematics teachers to aid them in teaching new mathematics courses and (2) students to help them familiarize and deepen their knowledge in mathematics.
This year’s training aims to strengthen the students’ and teachers’ knowledge of Calculus. Calculus is the mathematical study of changing quantities. It has two branches: differential calculus and integral calculus, which interestingly have been developed separately. The study of Calculus is essential in this age due to its wide application to other fields, from physics and engineering to economics and medicine, to name a few. A deeper understanding of Calculus is necessary to be a more confident and effective educator for our students. This will also help our students appreciate the importance of calculus in different fields and equip them with competencies in calculus that are possibly required by the paths they will take in higher education.
